Thanksgiving Day in Whatcom County

Beautiful snow.

Only two days later, the snow is gone.

Wrestling

A little pre-Thanksgiving wrestling at our house.  All three boys and Papa.  I was happy to be a by stander and snap a few photos.

Bristol

Bristol is about 9 months old now and loves to be outside.
She wanders too far sometimes so we baby gate the porch to keep her close.

She loves to watch for squirrels although her Breed is Brittany and they are bird dogs. She has learned about being a squirrel dog from our mini schnauzer Daisy.

Motion Picture Music

I don't know how it all started.  Maybe it's a combination of many things; super cold weather outside keeping us in, the reading of the Gettysburg address the other day, the huge pile of blankets and pillows on the bedroom floor because I'm washing all the sheets and the playing of a music CD that sounded a bit like movie music.  Put that all together and we have 3 little boys acting out the "Civil War Battle."  Or as Derek calls it the "Silver war battle."  Now I can't get any of this on camera because they are way too shy about it.  So, I'm left to try and explain it here.  I finally had to make all the beds and take away most of their trench and bunker building material but they seemed OK about it.  Instead they are using the 3 bean bags we have.  I also swapped out the CD for the Motion Picture music to Robin Hood.  The one that stared Kevin Costner.  They are actually listening to it and making up their own story to go with the mood of the music.  I could never inspire them to do this as a project. No, the pieces just have to fall into place and they have to stumble upon it on their own.  The best I can hope for is to create an environment ripe for creativity.

MacMillian Space Centre

Two weeks ago we had a great field trip to the Space Centre in British Columbia.  Arranged by a homeschooling friend of mine we weren't sure if we would know many people in the group but in fact we knew 3 out of the 6 families. Two of them were cub scout families.  It's so nice when all of us have friends to hang out with on field trips.

We learned about a day in space that focused a lot on the obstacles associated with eating and going to the bathroom.  The boys loved that.  Then we sat in comfy chairs and viewed a planetarium show.

The whole ceiling seemed to open up into space.

After that the kids in our group had a private class on phases of the moon, the tilt of the earth, seasons and how it all goes together.  It was a great day of learning.
