Birthday Ramblings...

October...
The month that has two birthday boys less than 7 days apart.  Each year this month tries to do me in.  With school in full swing, activities, holidays approaching and then !BOOM!, two birthdays to arrange.  I love birthdays.  I enjoy making the birthday boy's favorite meal and doing extra special stuff during the week.  It's just that squeezing that all in is challenging.
Studies still come first.

Yes, you have to do school on your birthday.

Those bookend boys are turning 9 and 14.  Look at that stair step.

October is the final month of youth football.  These Lynden Vet Raiders are 4-1 and scheduled to play in a big game at Civic Stadium this weekend.  I do enjoy watching them play.  Go 54!
Blossom enjoys looking at books during the games.
And at home.
We're still a little distracted over here watching the Blossom grow.  I did manage, just barely, to get a birthday gathering pulled together and I paid Amazon dearly for it in shipping.

September Starts...

Three weeks without a post - usually means I've thrown another ball into the air and I'm working on keeping it up with all the others.
This ball was fall activities starting.  Football, Cub Scouts and Speech Club.
 Cubs in a race.

First football game of the season.

Each one has it's own logistical challenges which are magnified with a little one in tow.  And then I picked up knitting again because the weather is turning cooler.  Fall always makes me want to knit.   Which is crazy because I have plenty to do getting ready for school and sitting down doesn't help me do that.
 Knitting for Blossom

So, I took a break from knitting for a few days while Josh was out of town on business and I completely reworked the school shelves.  Out with the old and in with the new.  We are ready!
The 2014-2015 Homeschool year officially starts next Monday in the Johnson house.
Yes, I'm worried about the bottom shelves and the little one.

 Blossom Updates -
  • She's almost 9 months old
  • Been with us 2 months
  • Identifies us as "her" people
  • Has the pincher grasp down and can feed herself a Gerber Puff.
  • Scoots backwards on the floor during tummy time
  • Can now roll over easily from back to front and does this everyday in her crib. This creates the challenge of the diaper leaking.  I have to figure that one out.
  • She zooms around the "Around We Go."
  • Starting to say the beginning sounds of book and dog when referring to these. Starting to say the ending sound of water.  Starting to figure out the signs for more and finished.  Understands soooo much more when we talk to her.
  • I'm starting to baby proof the floor level in my home.  Oh, what a job!
  • I just realized the other day that we will be the ones to teach her "no."  :- /
  • And thanks to some borrowed, some hand-me-downs and some bought used.... we are cloth diapering 90% of the day but not at night.  Pretty good!
Just trying to give her the best and stay on budget.  She brings us so much joy!

Are You Ready For Some Football . . .

Football season is here.  Six hours of practice a week until school starts then 4 hours a week and a game on Saturday.
The little town of Lynden has four junior level teams this year.  That's one quarter of the teams for the whole league that includes; Lynden, Blaine, Ferndale, Bellingham, Lummi and Nooksack.
That's my boy, #50.
Interestingly, these Lynden boys aren't big.  They're of average height and build.  My Architect is on the bigger side of the average.
A quarterback sandwich by #44 and #50.
Next year my boy would move up to the senior league.  There are only two Lynden teams in the senior league this year.  It seems to me that the jump to senior league weeds out some of the smaller players.  A smart move in my opinion.  Bigger boys make bigger hits.

Friends and Football . . .

Last Friday we had some very special friends overnight at our house.  They braved a rainy Saturday morning to cheer on our Football Player in his last game of the finals.

With of score of 19-6 the NW Propane Raiders won their game and finished the season, taking 3rd place out of 17 teams in the Whatcom County Junior Tackle Football League.
Way to go!

Football for the Architect...

Football and I had a hate/hate relationship when I was growing up.  It often took priority over weekend cartoons and that really chafed me.

This little guy and his desire to play the game may just change my mind.
Thursday was his first day of practice with his new team and all his gear on.
It didn't take much to tire the little guys out.  Those helmets are HEAVY and the sun was hot.  No complaints from this guy though, he's just happy to finally be able to wear the uniform and practice.
