A Bit Of Sunshine...

Sunday was May 1st and it was a glorious day.  My hubby turned the sprinkler on to keep some newly planted grass seed moist.

The boys saw this as summer finally arriving.  It was still cool out but it's hard to see that when the sprinkler is going and the sun in shining.
The boys ran in the house, pulled on their swim trunks and headed out to have some fun.

Declaring war on the sprinkler.
Can you guess who is who?
Getting a closer look.
These boxes have been used for quite a lot of pretending.  Normally (and I use that word loosely) they are robot costumes for battling.

A Walk in the Trees....

I accompanied  my oldest on the Whatcom County Extension’s 2011 Forest Conservation Tour today.  We spent 2 1/2 hours outside in the cool morning air learning about forest regeneration, the seed orchard off Mt. Baker Hwy., soil, water and all the great things that can be made from timber.  I'm very impressed with the care and concern given to manage this great natural resource.  I almost hugged one of the old gentlemen who reminded me some of the great independent people I grew up around in Alaska.  The kind that say the Federal Government should stay out of just about everything and let private enterprise regualted themselves.  Once again I've gone far off topic.  Let's just get to the pictures.

Learning how to figure out how old this tree is by the branches.

Hiking down to Olsen Creek.

Learning about what's in the water in Olsen Creek.

Learning about the unique soil around our county.

Walking into DNR land.

The seed orchard.  May not look like much but there is a lot of amazing things going on here.

Heading out to collect our free tree and go home.
