December - Weekend # 1 . . .

Another whirl wind weekend is behind us.  Saturday had us all going in different directions.  Josh and the Scientist were at a chess tournament.   The Architect was being shuttled by neighbors between Josh and church Christmas program practice. The Professor and I were on the Western campus helping with a home-school  Debate tournament.  He was a timer and I helped run the timer scheduling table.  We were all back home together around 6 pm.
The Scientist did great at his chess tournament.  He won 2, loss 2 and stalemate 1, which equals 2.5 points.  This is his personal best from the 3 tournaments he's attended.   Now, he's wants to join a chess club.  I'm working on finding him a chess tutor or coach because there aren't any local clubs to join.
On Sunday, we got our Christmas tree.  We visited a new place - for us.  Noon Road U-Cut.  Not a fancy name but a great place to get a tree and the prices were the best we've seen in a long time.  We spent $ 25.00 on a Turkish fir.  It's huge too!

The Sun was out and painfully bright!

Josh was just trying to keep his eyes open.

Sunday night the boys did an amazing job in the Christmas program.  The Professor was old enough this year to be a sound assistant.  The Architect had a major speaking part and was amazing!  I don't normally brag about my kids except to family but his performance deserve a BIG shout out!  The Scientist was so happy with his role as a sheep.  He was so cute!
Christmas break will officially be here in about a week and a half and I'm ready!

Thanksgiving 2013 . . .

What a pretty day we had on Thanksgiving here in the Pacific Northwest.  Clear skies and mild weather that let the boys play outside.

Grammy's table was decorated so nice.
Grandma Patty brought cute olive penguins that were yummy too.
The men carved the turkey and ham.

We had so much yummy food and I only brought the pumpkin pies.  How did I manage that?

Two pictures where needed to get both sides of the table.
Yes, that's Josh disregarding the picture request.

Happy Thanksgiving 2013!

The Day After Thanksgiving . . .

It's been a whirlwind weekend with Thanksgiving and being away from the house for 30 hours to spend time with a good friend and her family.  I left the day after Thanksgiving and drove the 3 1/2 hours to visit my friend Anna who had just given birth 5 days earlier.  Although I was busy putting my OCD to good use, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the littles in the Downen clan.  (I wish I had pictures but you'll have to visit her BLOG to see who I'm talking about.)
I'll start with the newest addition.
H - She is a perfect, precious baby who is happy and content, (now that Mama's milk is in.)
L - The sweet toddler who let me hold her when I wanted and demanded it at other times.  She cried when I would go outside to grab something from my car.  Her smile lights up the room.  We had fun at the sink with the dishes and danced to happy birthday music for her sister.
D -  D is three I believe.  He is a Scottish Clansman in every way.  Sandwiched between two sisters on each side, D also knows how to be sweet.  I enjoyed reading to D on the couch.  What a fun age to read to.  Books are like a window to the world for them.  My conversations with D often revolved around if I would like to have lunch with poisonous snakes or sharks.  He has vivid dreams at night that fuel his daytime conversations.
F - What a fun age F is at!  So helpful and full of compliments!  I gladly bear the honor of Best Cleaner she bestowed upon me.  F was eager to try and do all types of jobs.  She received directions well and completed her task with as much effort as when she started.   I enjoyed this side kick and wished I had one of my own.
E - The eldest of the 5 littles.  E is the same age as my Scientist (8).  Her peaceful countenance is a sign to me that she is going to be incredibly successful at anything she puts her mind to.  She is focused and not easily distracted.  Her willingness to help was a blessing and she is one of the most capable 8 year olds I have ever met.  And she does it with a baby (doll) slung to her chest just like her mama.)
S - S is nearly the same age as my Architect.  He still has youthful boy charm but the strength of  a teenager.  S is between the two worlds of the littles and becoming a man.  An obedient boy, loyal to his family.
I - The oldest of the Downen kids at home. (One year younger than my Professor.)  He has grown into a quiet teen with the strength of a man.  No longer the Snow Leopard toting little boy of years ago.  He's grown into someone I would have to get to know all over again. (Although time did not allow.)

And I can't leave out Jack and Mina.  The protectors of the 15 acres at Twin Firs.  I was fully prepared to meet these two when I knocked on the door to Anna's home.  Double fisting doggie treats, the first thing these watch dogs learned about me is that I come bearing food.  Needless to say, I was easily accepted at the door and into the Downen home.

I was so glad Mark and Anna let me come to visit.  I enjoyed our time chatting and I'm thankful they let me love on them for a few hours with my OCD traits.
