Make a Difference Day...

Sometimes it's hard to be a parent of a Boy Scout.  Many months can go by with no interest in merit badges or advancing in rank or even a camping trip.  Positions go up for election every 6 months and fundraising is a chore.  It can be a little boring going to meetings week after week.

But then a movie night/cabin over-nighter pops up with service on the agenda for the next day and my fuel to continue on is renewed.   My boys are usually always willing to do a service project and so much is gained from serving the community.

Josh was one of the adult leaders on site and was really impressed with how breakfast turned out despite the small amount of sleep all the boys got sleeping out in the cold. The boys were cooking by 7am and on site at Sunset Pond by 9am for a salmon habitat restoration.

This group of scouts helped a larger group plant hundreds of trees.  All ages were welcome, so before Josh left Lynden he picked up the Scientist and he got to help out too.

The day was October 24th - Make a Difference day.
Other scouts from our Troop did service at Tennant Lake as well as a Veteran garden called Growing Veterans.
A great day of volunteer service to the community.  Thank you Boy Scouts!

  2. Ah, Sunset Pond. I once shocked up a bass as fat as a football, but as I was an inexperienced netter, it got away. Mark gave me the data to write up a management report for some credit toward my Master's. The bass were eating the salmon on their way out to sea. It's good to see that there are still restoration projects there :)

    1. Wow, a bass?! I heard the water flowing in is too warm now or something like that. It's affecting the salmon. But Bass would be a pest for those little salmon for sure.
