1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
We never know when we will be called to give an account of the hope we have in Christ but the Bible says we should always be prepared. But what does that look like for children? For my, nearly 10 years old, boy it looked like this.
~ While playing near the trees with a couple other scouts at day camp, my son hears a boy say he is an evolutionist. The boy goes on to state that he believes in heaven but doesn't really believe in God.
Now, let me preface the next event with the fact that my middle son is a boy of few words. He speaks only when its really necessary and it's possible to be on a 40 minute car ride with him and he never says a word! And while I'm getting this whole story second hand from him... he was clear on what he said to the boy. He said, "God help you." And he said it with gentleness and respect.
My heart swelled for this boy of mine who is confident in his faith to share it with others and to share it with the hardest group of all, his peers. This spurred a great conversation and much praise from me. He also told me another boy in his group said he was an Atheists. Now, I'm not sure what those other boys will grow up to be, but I know one thing. At every scout meeting they must recite the scout oath that says...
I promise to DO MY BEST
To do my DUTY to GOD And my Country
To HELP other people, and To OBEY the LAW of the Pack
To do my DUTY to GOD And my Country
To HELP other people, and To OBEY the LAW of the Pack
It's very possible, this may be the only area of their lives where God is allowed in.
It's a very real fact that satan is working hard to capture every soul he can. I plan to keep fighting against his plan and working to point every scout in my care to God.
Pray for these boys, pray for scouts.
Well done :D
